Verbal Inflection in Hindi: A Distributed Morphology Approach
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this paper, we provide a complete description of Hindi verbal inflection within the framework of Distributed morphology. We discuss the categories that are visible on the verb itself and on associated auxiliaries. We show how both analysis and generation are possible using this model. We also discuss the implementation of such linguistically motivated analysis in a morphological analyzer for Hindi, one of the several NLP tools that we have developed for Hindi, and discuss the outcomes of such an implementation.

Events in Space
Many languages make use of verbal forms to express spatial relations and distinctions. Spatial notions are lexicalized into verb roots, as in come and go; they are expressed by derivational morphology such as Ineseño Chumash maquti ‘hither and thither’ or Shasta ehée ‘downward’ (Mithun 1999: 140-141); and, I will argue, they are expressed by verbal inflectional morphology in Nez Perce. This ver...
متن کاملThe Production of Nominal and Verbal Inflection in an Agglutinative Language: Evidence from Hungarian
The contrast between regular and irregular inflectional morphology has been useful in investigating the functional and neural architecture of language. However, most studies have examined the regular/irregular distinction in non-agglutinative Indo-European languages (primarily English) with relatively simple morphology. Additionally, the majority of research has focused on verbal rather than no...
متن کاملHinMA: Distributed Morphology based Hindi Morphological Analyzer
Morphology plays a crucial role in the working of various NLP applications. Whenever we run a spell checker, provide a query term to a web search engine, explore translation or transliteration tools, use online dictionaries or thesauri, or try using text-to-speech or speech recognition applications, morphology works at the back of these applications. We present here a novel computational tool H...

This paper examines children’s use of verbal agreement in comprehension in two varieties of Spanishwith the goal of determining how the input affects their behavior. Both dialects are identical in allowing null subjects and having rich verbal morphology in contrast to English. The dialects differ however in that in Chilean Spanish a phonological lenition process affects the realization of secon...
متن کاملSuppletion and dependency in inflectional morphology
The purpose of this paper is to present a general approach to verbal inflection with special emphasis on suppletion phenomena. The approach is applied to French in this paper, but it extends straightforwardly to other languages.1 The first part of the paper describes an analysis of suppletion in inflectional morphology with two design requirements. First, we attempt to provide an analysis which...
